As stated in its Charter, the Wissenschaftskolleg serves science and scholarship by inviting Fellows.
The concentration of invitations in specific fields of research is based on considerations of desirable developments, for which the international and interdisciplinary milieu of the Wissenschaftskolleg is especially favorable.
In selected fields, the Wissenschaftskolleg also concerns itself with what results from the Fellows' work after their stay in Berlin and supports these activities in the framework of limited-period projects that strive for innovative institutional consequences and that seem to promise new ideas for inviting future Fellows.
